Bio

Sung Yun Cho was born in Seoul, Korea and immigrated with her parents and younger brother at the age of 3 to Flatbush in Brooklyn. A few years later, they moved to Long Island and attended Syosset High School where she started her pursuit in acting.  There she was part of Forensics (speech and debate team) where she competed in Drama across the country, winning and placing numerous awards and the most notable 2nd place in the National Tournament.

Sung is a graduate of the State University of New York Purchase Acting Conservatory. Before graduating college, she had made her professional debut on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lanford Wilson’s Redwood Curtain starring Jeff Daniels and Debra Monk directed by Marshall W. Mason.  Upon being hired, she had to leave SUNY Purchase before finishing first semester. She was in the middle of the production of The Importance of Being Earnest playing Lady Bracknell. She was able to still graduate with her company because the Purchase Acting staff decided to use the Broadway show as an internship and graded her Broadway performance.  She was nominated for “Best Newcomer on Broadway” by the Outer Critics Circle Award for that performance.

Soon after graduation, she received her SAG card for a recurring role in a pilot for NBC and has continued to do TV, film, commercial and voice work.

Sung has performed in reputable downtown NYC and regional theatres around the country such as HOME Theatre, Hartford Stage, The Old Globe, Philadelphia Theatre Co and the Longwharf Theatre to name a few. She has received the Helen and Morris Award for General Excellence as Best Supporting Actress for her work with the Philadelphia Theatre Co.
